Guest Speaker Photojournalist Marilyn Newton
Through the Lens of History--A Pictorial Snapshot of Reno
TCC is extremely fortunate to have secured the renowned and award-winning photojournalist, Marilyn Newton, as our final speaker of the season. Marilyn’s career in journalism officially started in 1963, but she had her first story published at age 12, by the Carson City Nevada Appeal.
Her talent was evident when she was hired by the Reno Evening Gazette after just one semester at UNR. Within two weeks she wrote her first front page story, and within six months she was promoted to photojournalist.
Marilyn has shot crime scenes, spot news, sports, entertainment, business, environmental portraits and historic events throughout the Northern Nevada and Northern California region. She will share a selection of her most well-known photos.
Marilyn has received over 400 local, state, and national awards, including a Pulitzer nomination. In 2002 she was inducted into the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame, and in 2025, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Nevada, Reno.
Journalistic integrity has never been more critical. Don’t miss this opportunity to see a legend!
